Conversations are a gateway to communication, understanding, and empathy. Conversational York aims to create interesting opportunities and spaces for Yorkers to break barriers through talking to one another - whether by learning a new language to speak to our residents from around the world (like the 8-week Spanish Primers) in their home language or getting together at Living Room to discuss relevant texts that inform community action.
the living room
The Living Room is a cool space to meet to start projects, to join one of the many book clubs, or to hang out with your favorite Excelerators. We will do a lot at The Living Room: Live from the Living Room, the Community Bookshelf, and host many discussion on subjects that make our communities better.
the Gardens oThe Gardens of Yorkf york
The Gardens of York, a project under York XL’s #RiseTogetherChallenge, will be made up of new and existing gardens that will connect York City neighborhoods through an organic, living, and teaching network of gardenscapes (GS). Each gardenscape will traverse at least three York City neighborhoods, highlight a specific theme, and provide an integrated skill learning experience.
This is a York XL signature event. The challenge will take place annually starting in 2018 during the Go Green in the City event hosted by Downtown Inc. The challenge pits teams of 10 people against each other to complete activities that clean and beautify York. In 2018, teams will compete to photograph, tag, and pick up the most trash. Each team member will download & install the Litterati app (www.litterati.org) to photograph litter prior to picking it up and disposing it. Each photo will tagged with #theTypeOfLitter, #theBrand, and #TeamName. At the end of the activity, each person will upload the images to Litterati, which will result in the photos appearing as a pin on a publicly accessible map at www.litterati.org.
